Tulum area is beautiful! Stay at boutique hotel/resort Ensencia. It is located away from the tourist area on a white sand beach on the Caribbean Sea. The service, food and attention to detail is great. If you want to get out, take a cab into the hotel district of Tulum to have dinner at Hartwood. The ambiance and food is ...

A kumal Bay is about an hour south of Cancun and well worth the trip. The beach at Akumal Bay is absolutely beautiful. Here you can snorkel and swim with sea turtles that feed on sea grass growing fairly close to shore. There is good food to be had at Lol-ha restaurant. Close by is an inlet called Jal-ku where ...

Puerto Aventuras is a gated community south of Playa del Carmen along Mexico's Riviera Maya. The town has a large marina, but lacks a feeling of strong Mexican culture.

This place is absolutely beautiful. If it wasn't for the natives constant urge to talk you into their stores this place could be a nice get away. I only recommend short visits here. There is only so much you can do on this island.

    Playa del Carmen

    148 reviews

There's something for everyone along Mexico's Riviera Maya, which runs along the coast from Puerto Morelos to Tulum. Go boating in Puerto Aventuras, party in Playa del Carmen, or relax at one of the many all-inclusive resorts that line the beach. The best part: easy accessibility from Cancun's airport.

    Puerto Morelos

My favorite hidden-in-plain-sight town in the Riviera Maya. It still has a nice small-town vibe, it isn't hip at all and it has a bunch of great restaurants. And a fantastic bookstore. Oh, and the reef offshore is in great shape. It's the perfect place to rent an apartment for a week and just chill out.

Coba is an impressive archaeological site located just 45-minutes from Tulum by bus or car. It's known for it's complex system of 'sacbeob'--ancient roads--that criss-cross the thick forest that the site is in. It also is the home of the second tallest pyramid in the Maya world--an amazing structure and one of the few that visitors are still allowed to ...

An easy day trip from Playa is Sian Ka'an, with its Biosphere Reserve which is a massive swath of pristine forest and wetland, home to monkeys, crocodiles, manatees, dolphins, and dozens of species of fresh and salt-water fish species. The Reserve is considered one of the world’s top fly fishing destinations, and most visitors here are anglers. But Sian Ka’an ...

Small Mayan fishing community at the end of the Boca Paila Rd. Head to the beach from 307 at Tulum and turn right for an adventure you will never forget! Great food, fresh? You know it, langostina y pesca caught moments before being served to you on the beach. Fabulous tours available for sight seeing or fishing all run thru ...
