This somewhat Disney-esque area has a nice mix of cafes, bars, restaurants, and shops. One of the more pleasant areas to stroll and enjoy without having to worry about traffic.

Xintiandi is a district in Shanghai, mainly comprised of fancy, corporate-like hotels, restaurants, and stores. Cars are not allowed to cross through Xintiandi, so it's easy to walk around, is very pedestrian friendly, and is a prime place to gaze at the seemingly endless crowds.Recommended for:Luxury Travelers

Xintiandi is not a bad place. It's overrun with locals, expats and tourists, and prices are high, but the place does have a few historical references. The classic shikumen architecture is best viewed here (although it can be hard to spot in between ads for the restaurants), a type of architecture which is a mix between Anhui Province's Huizhou style and western building style.
The bars and restaurants are generally expensive but of fairly high quality.

We went during the day, so maybe it's different at night. I felt like this shopping & entertainment spot was a little Disney-fied...kind of like the Grove in LA. The shopping is good, though.
