NOT the W, the Y. the YWCA in Sydney is a very good, no, EXTREMELY, good value for what you get. There are a variety of room types to choose from: from the budget hostel style with communal baths to double occupancy ensuite rooms. All of very good value. Clean and comfortable.
Location is awesome. It is very close to the subway station that has direct link to the airport. Location is also walking distance to numerous eateries, night spots, shopping spots, and touristy spots. Given that Sydney is such a flat city, walking about is very easy and with the great location of this Y, walking around is all you wan to do to explore the city with the hotel as the starting/ending/mid point.

The YWCA-affiliated Y Hotel, on the southern edge of Sydney's CBD-area Hyde Park, would be a perfectly acceptable choice were they not asking rates rather completely out of step with the facilities provided. The building, from its cafeteria-style restaurant to the narrow, low-ceilinged hallways, has an institutional feel, right down to the lodgers lounging in beat-up chairs with laptops in the small seating areas on each floor. It feels, for all the world, a bit like a college dormitory, which would be fine if prices were more rational -- the location alone certainly doesn't justify the tariffs.

Aligned with the YWCA (the global membership organisation for women), the Y Hotel is ideal if you want centrally located, place-to-put-your-head-down accommodation. Breakfast is complementary, wi-fi is inexpensive ($10 per day) and you can use the nearby YMCA gym for a small fee. With the no-frills prices however also comes no-frills everything else. The busy lobby feels more like a doctor’s waiting room, complete with half-dead flower arrangements. The bedrooms are packed-in, with not a centimeter of hallway to spare, making the hotel feel a little like ‘student digs’ or institutional. Rooms are simple, with built-in wardrobes and refurbished clean bathrooms. And for guests who usually enjoy entertainment-by-television, you may instead like to play a game of eye spy with the scuffed walls, dirty windows and damp marks on the ceilings.
