YMCA Hotel Taipei is actually not affiliated with any other YMCA outside of Taiwan, and is more of a no-frills, low-mid range hotel, kind of like a Howard Johnson’s or Days Inn in the U.S. Every room has its own bathroom, television, and refrigerator. Security boxes are behind the front desk in the lobby, and there’s coin-operated laundry machines for guests’ use. The lobby is nice and has a small seating area and a couple computers for guests (standing kiosks, so probably not for long-term use). The price and amenities put YMCA Taipei right in the middle between hostels and mid-range hotels chains. Even better, teachers and students with IDs (international works as well) can get 10% off the room price. If you’re looking for an affordable option right next to Taipei Main Station, YMCA may be your best bet.

The hotel in Taipei is very clean, much different than what you have seen of YMCAs in other countries. It’s a real hotel. The staff is very friendly and there’s a even western-style restaurant on the first floor. The location is amazing—you can take the MRT, train, bus—it’s all five minutes away. And for the price the rooms are really great. They’re very basic, but clean and a good value for your money. There are a lot of restaurants and food stands in this area, and the prices around here are very reasonable. There’s also a lot of Internet cafes nearby. One of my friends used to live outside of Taipei and would always stay at the YMCA when he came to visit.
