One of the great old park service hotels, rather like the Grand Lodge at the north rim of the Grand Canyon or El Tovar on the south rim.

Grant Village is a large campground right on the massive Yellowstone lake. There are fewer trees, and thus, less privacy here. But the campground was clean, as were the bathrooms, you are near a little village with a gas station and a grocery store and a restaurant if you want to escape the camping experience. The nicest part was walking ...

Huge campground but actually pretty private. It gets very crowded in the summer so your best bet is to book via Xanterra resorts ahead of time-- there are some bike/hike up sites available. Clean, well cared for, really friendly staff. Food options, a small store, laundry and showers are available. One of the nicer large campgrounds in the park.

It is a very isolated lodge, maybe one of the closest to Lamar Valley. I like it because it is very quiet, far from crowded areas such as Old Faithful Inn or Lake yellowstone area. The cabins are really simple but clean and at night there is silence all around.

Located in a pine forest. These are nice grounds but most sites are not that private. They sell firewood at the entrance, and have a little store where you can buy some beers and other essentials.

Quiet medium sized campground just up the road from the Norris Geyser Basin. Set in a fir and pine forest on a bluff above the winding Gibbon river is is scenic and peaceful and a bit away from the crowds so it is quiet at night. Still it is not too far away from Canyon or Old Faithful making it ...

This was a nice camping site. Shower facilities were clean, and campsite was reasonable. Grizzly bears are seen frequently in the area, so this is the place to be if you want to see wildlife. One word of caution. The mosquitoes at this campground are THICK in the late afternoon and evening. There were just swarms of them EVERYWHERE! We ...

Private, tiny campgound in the Lamar Valley. Great fishing and hiking nearby so it really popular and fills early. We saw a momma black bear and cubs just 200 yards away so bring the spray and plan on a clean camp!

Convenient location because there is a general store right at the bottom of the hill, and you are very close to tower falls. Bears are often sighted in this area. No showers, and bring your own firewood, as there is not always some available.

We usually blaze though Mammoth enroute to our favorite places but decided to come in the winter and explore. The hotel is open and convenient. We had to wait in our car for a herd of Bison to pass through the hotel grounds. The rooms were clean, large (given age of the building) and beds were comfortable. There is a lounge ...

I did not stay here, but there is an attached complex with a fair sized general store for camping gear, food, drinks (including booze and beers), plus they have gas and souvenirs. Good place for a pit stop.

Quiet grounds, more off the main loop than most other places, but not too much around it, so not the most strategic place to stay. Nice little river running along it, and close to Swan lake.
