This brand name Japanese baker is famous for its small cookies. Unfortunately, they are really just mass produced processed food. Save you calories for something else.

A little creepy to be festive on a cemetery but this is one of the better places for hanami (a.k.a. cherry blossom viewing) when they are in season.

Attractive women's clothing boutique that also sells a variety of Japanese dishes and accessories. Worth a visit on a walk through Minami Aoyama.

This is one of my favorite places in Tokyo to buy unique ceramics. Quality is high and the designs are distinctly Japanese but very modern. A great place to buy something Japanese that is functional in a Western home.

This hip new Japanese clothing store located inside a converted swimming pool is all the rage. Sells a range of casual clothing -- mostly in blue and white. The hottest new retail concept in Aoyama (for the moment). Opened April 1, 2014. On a small street off of Koto-dori. Don't be intimidated by the hidden entrance -- walk rough up ...

Tokyo's answer to Smorgasburg or the Brooklyn Flea. This outdoor collection of small restaurants and boutique is a refreshing addition to Aoyama. Best enjoyed when the weather is warm. In the winter, grab a glass of hot wine to take the edge off.

This adorable little spot specializes in children's dishes but also has nice artisanal trinkets that will appeal to adults. The koinobori (carp kites) here are lovely and very reasonably priced.

A wide selection of high quality chop sticks, some at eye popping prices. A nice place for souvenirs that is convenient to touristed areas but a little off the beaten path.

Nicely curated clothing store. The styles here trend a little urban / edgy. It won't appeal to your conservative side but is a great place to express your inner rock star.

This great little bar is tucked away 2 floors below the street level. The tastefully retro shag carpeting is an immediately noticeable contrast to other Tokyo spots. The real charm reveals itself as your eye wonders to the racy calligraphic art over a well-crafted beverage. One of my favorite spots and well off the beaten tourist path.

Hahaha! Pretty cool. I snapped some shots of the young people all dressed up. The main drag is very lively on Sundays. I spent some time shopping for shoes there but they did not have anything for as I put it "big American feet". Tip for the ladies, it you are an 8/9 or above in American sizes (38/40 European) ...

Shopper's dream destination. So many places to shop at here, mostly on the higher-end range. As Americans, though, it's difficult to shop here, as even the largest sizes are like extra small to those from the States.

The busy all crossing intersections outside of Shibuya station is iconic for Tokyo, although, that type of crossing is becoming popular in other cities as well. It was raining when we went so was not too crowded. The second floor of the Starbucks offers a good vantage point to view the crossing.

In Japan, Hachiko is much more than the statue at Shibuya station, the dog is a national symbol of loyalty. The path of the Akita who waited nine years for his master to return is respected by everyone and it is an example of loyalty you will see in several places here. The statue itself was erected in 1934 and ...

This hidden treasure in Daikanyama is stocked full of original Japanese clothing designs that exhibit a rare mix of both patriotism and denim. Very local. Definitely something you won't find at home even if much of it pushes the boundaries on wearable.
