    National Railway Museum

    11 reviews

Free, loads to see, and non-train-geek-friendly. Plus it's a great thing to do if it's raining. It's near the station and has luggage lockers (I don't think the station does).

The most spectacular place I have ever visited. The grounds, house and facilities (including the shops and restaurants) are impeccably maintained and it is a wonderful day out for everyone.

    Clifford's Tower

    7 reviews

Well, why wouldn't I like a tower bearing my name? Really that's why I like it so much. It's not really much to look at after seeing something as magnificent as Windsor Castle, but it gives a better picture of what places were like all that time ago.

    Evil Eye Lounge

What a wonderfully wacky place to enjoy a night out with friends! When you first enter there's the bar of course, and then you can head in for seating, or go upstairs to explore the rooms with couches and beds and quite an assort of seating/lying arrangements. Seriously, beds? Yup, fun quirky little place. :) Probably best enjoyed drunk unless ...

    The University of York

Is it a university? Or a nature reserve? It's both! The original 60s campus has a big lake, and plenty of wildlife to see (ducks/waterfowl, squirrels and rabbits!).

Cheesy and fun. You take a little train "back in time" to see (and smell) how the Vikings lived.

On a nice day, you can't beat a walk along the river in York. Walk to Millennium bridge on one side, cross over, and walk back.

It's free, good for a wander/picnic on a nice day. Check out the ruined Abbey and mediaeval Hospitium, or wander down to the river.
