The river and surrounding hillside scenery are beautiful but, aside from a few nice properties, Urubamba itself has little to offer. If I were to do my trip over again, I'd probably opt for simpler accommodations and stay in Ollantaytambo which is much more charming.

I would suggest looking up the explorandes tour group. We went with them with only 4 of us on private guiding adventures. Relatively inexpensive and excellent! www.explorandes.com

One of the many Incan ruins in the Sacred Valley. You can see the clear remains of the impressive terraces that allowed for the ingenous Incan Agriculture system that took advantage of the mountains to create different microclimates thanks to changing altitude. Pisac also has a fairly well known market that sells artisanal crafts several times a week

This small town is the closest town to Machu Picchu. Because of its location, the town mainly caters towards tourism. The rushing river running through the middle of the town and the surrounding mountains were nice to admire. There were numerous hotels, souvenir shops, and eateries throughout the town.
