Beautiful coastal town, the center is spotless and the park near the sea is where you'll find people enjoying the peaceful atmosphere daily. Zadar is said to have one of the best sunsets in the world, don't miss out on the show. The town is quite small, but there is enough to do to stay busy and it is a great starting point to visit islands nearby.

Less well-known than other Dalmatian-coast cities like Split and Dubrovnik, Zadar has all the requisite charms – marble streets, Roman ruins, Baroque churches, cafés housed in ancient cloisters – but also has its own quirky appeal. Along the seaside promenade, be sure to seek out the Sun Salutation and Sea Organ. For dinner, forgo the fancy places along the waterfront and head into the maze-like center, lined with casual konobas (small, family-run restaurants).
