Still has the biker bar vibe, but now full of hipsters drinking pitchers of beer on the picnic tables outside on sunny days. They also grill some mean burgers.

This longtime biker bar (as in bicycles as well as motorcycles) has recently been trading in its punk rock attitude for a kinder, gentler, more tourist-friendly disposition, but you still can't beat the beer garden-style outdoor patio on a sunny day. Plus, the drink selections are stellar - tons of good beer on tap, including local microbrews and imported favorites; every liquor you could want; and the best Bloody Marys in town (made from scratch with horseradish and lime). Order a burger and perfectly-crispy potatoes and you've got a perfect afternoon.

Absolutely loved this place! They have a great selection of beers as well as cocktails. Their outdoor seating is especially nice, with a down to earth feel. Cash only though - remember to bring some because their ATM charged a $3 fee!

Their website touts their warm beer and cold women (staff are celebrated for their devil-may-care gruffness, though more friendly now after the remodel), and the line of Harleys and fixed-gear hipster bikes outside let you in the clientele. Dive bar aficionados the world over flock to the outdoor seating, where San Franciscans congregate on warm days to munch on burgers and brats, drink copiously, and compare just who is more counter-culture than whom. See how you measure up by how long it takes you to get served (if they deem you worthy at all).

Not only does Zeitgeist have the best hidden outdoor beer garden they also have our favorite Bloody Marys. Situated at the edge of the Mission this little watering hole is one of the most unpretentious venues around. Don't give the bartenders any lip, wait in line, know what you're going to have before you get served and please, dear God have your money ready to pay. Also, don't expect the bathroom experience you had at the Sheraton Palace. Hey, there's a portapotty outside. What else do you want, buddy?

Bring a game or cards and sit outside for some of SF's best people watching. The bloody mary's are some of the city's best, the beer is cold, and best of all, it's all cheap. Patio is a great place to spend an afternoon or a whole weekend.

I know that the nights I spent here were awesome.... Mostly because I can't remember them.

Very cool mission bar with a great beer selection. The primary attraction is their big outdoor beer garden - lined with picnic tables where you can hang out, eat fresh tamales and drink beer. The scene is grungy, and when the fog rolls in it can get very cold. Those in the know wear warm jackets even in the summer.

Great selection of craft beers and an awesome patio at this dive bar south of Market St. Popular with bikers and cyclists, but on any given evening just about anyone could be here. One of my favourite bars in the city.

Have a draft amongst the hipsters and motorcycle bikers, but don't pick a fight. I've seen a few swinging fists here in my day.

I love the crowds here: urban hipsters, motorcycle gangs, intrepid travelers from around the world. The floor is quite possibly the dirtiest place in San Francisco and the staff is sufficiently grumpy, but you'll have a blast. On a warm day, a burger on the back patio can't be beat.

I met Sam Rockwell here once. Sadly, I wasn't fully acquainted with his filmography to have a brilliant conversation beyond, "hey... I love your movies (don't say Ninja Turtles, don't say Ninja Turtles!)."

You'll find half of San Francisco at Zeitgeist on a sunny afternoon. Grab a pitcher and join the crowd if you like, but I personally prefer coming when it's not too busy. Stick around long enough and you'll spot the Tamale Lady selling her homemade tamales. Or you can grab a burger from the bar grill. Finally, legend has it that Zeitgeist makes one of the city's finest Bloody Marys...

Checked this spot out with a group of friends and loved the beer garden style. Perfect place to get a pitcher or however many that turns into. You can drink outside and hang with buddies or make new friends due to the large tables. The food smelled so good I had to get a hot dog....and it was tasty!

Great biker bar with a huge outdoor space. Don't expect anything too fancy here. Just good drinks and a rowdy crowd.

Awesome place to go. It's got a rooty feeling that is unmatched as far as I can tell. They don't take credit cards, so bring money.

Okay, the staff kinda sucks, the clientele a bit straggly, and the place isn't exactly clean, but who cares. It's got character, outdoor bench seating - perfect on a sunny day - and some serious Bloody Marys. Slumming it never tasted so good.

This is a beer "garden" in the awkwardly categorized section of San Francisco known either as "Upper Mission Dolores", the "Deco Ghetto", or "KFC Heights."

Your night can very depending on whether you manage to fall into a good crowd. The crowd is grunge-alt-hipsters to the occasional cute chicks who could have stepped out of Williamsburg.

On the upside. You can grab some beer and chill out camp still under the clouds, like stepping into the collage parties in movies where everyone gathers "out by the rock" or "up on whatever hill." And you stand a pretty good chance of seeing the awesome Tamale Lady and scoring yourself of good...nay LEGENDARY cheap bites.

It's a dice toss worth taking.

Great place for a pitcher and a burger. The bacon is worth the extra two bucks! Last time I was here, Chimay on tap for $6.

How can you not like a place like this in San Francisco. The crowd is so mixed it's always a very good time. They have some of my favorite beers on tap all of the time as well so I can just head out on the patio and relax on the picnic tables and share good times with friends. Local microbrews and a really good burger on a quiet Sunday after noon sounds good to me every day of the week.
