The air up in Zermatt is so clean and fresh and there are good reasons. There are no fueled cars allowed in this quaint little Swiss mountain village. Very pedestrian friendly, this village is best explored on foot. Many of the hotels provide complimentary shuttle service in golf carts from the train station therefore rush hour is when a train arrives at the station. There are many neat shops, wonderful restaurants, and beautiful views by ways of gondolas and trams in Zermatt. Heidi must have been somewhere playing hide and seek with me. I couldn't find her.

If you want classic alpine scenery coupled with a sophisticated village that has some of the finest accommodation in the Alps then Zermatt is the place to go. The skiing won't let you down either and the extensive area has a fantastic snow record and suits all levels of skier, especially experts. It's also famous for its gourmet cuisine, just take your wallet.

very neat little ski village totally rocking the swiss ski stereotype hard-core! lol i was here for almost a week & it was just breathtakingly gorgeous! you can't drive up. you take this little red train. there are only like 2 real cars in the village. the mayor's & the ambulance. the rest are basically electric golf cart/taxis. you can walk from one end of the village to the other in like 5 min! it's literally snuggled into the foothills of the Matterhorn! i arrived at night & when i got up in the morning & looked out the window, it SERIOUSLY looked like the Matterhorn could fall on us at any moment. your first glance up will make your heart skip a few beats, trust me! i didn't ski while i was there, but did enjoy it immensely as I spent most of the time visiting a german friend of mine who was aupairing there. it's EXPENSIVE!!! fair warning...
