Nice little garden close to the fountain! There is a sign that says to be careful for butterfly cocoons, but I've never been lucky enough to find one. Peaceful setting!

There's plenty of history and culture here in the heart of San Diego - filled with museums, plenty of beautiful walking trails, lush grassy parks and old, gnarled trees perfect for picnics, and flavored with Spanish culture, Balboa Park literally has something for everyone. The international village, with little homes decorated like specific cultures and lands is a fun experience. ...

Lovely old carousel. I used to get the brass ring again and again yet I just wanted off the ride so I'd toss it.

I LOVE this museum. It's not just artifacts sitting in glass cases - it's interactive, stimulating, and even exciting exhibits that educate and inform and keep you interested. They have a giant screen theater, which is my favorite - I've seen ocean documentaries, Disney's Earth, 3D Dinosaurs, and a space movie when I was younger - and I've loved them ...

Casa del Prado is a beautiful old theater in Balboa Park. The outside architecture and design is Spanish style, while the inside acoustics are perfect for chorus performances, small plays, and holiday presentations - especially around Christmastime.

I love going to the Old Globe to see How the Grinch Stole Christmas every year. As a beautiful replica of Shakespeare's Globe Theater in London, The Old Globe is an excellent venue for theatrical productions, musicals, and choral/band events. Plus, its location inside Balboa Park makes for a historic and elegant setting for any performance.

Get out your turtle neck and your horn-rimmed glasses for some hipster time in the Museum of Photographic arts. This museum doesn't have a ton of floor space, but it has plenty of heart. The photography exhibits are edgy and provocative, but mild enough that you can still bring the kids in. Look ahead for film showings and special exhibits.
