A very cool part of the NZ coastline, dotted with little towns offering accommodation and delicious food. Take hikes around the surrounding forest, catch a boat around the islands, or stay in the bars enjoying the views.

Home to 144 spectacular islands with pristine beaches and sparkling secluded bays, the Bay of Islands is packed with activities to get you out on the water. Swim with dolphins, kayak, dive, sail and just relax. A 3 ½ hour drive north of Auckland will land you in Paihia, a great base town for you to explore the area. Be sure to visit the Waitangi Treaty Grounds while you’re there, one of New Zealand’s most significant historic sites. If you have more time, head north to 90 Mile Beach to the Te Paki Sand Dunes and body board down at thrilling speeds.
