Kauai Hotel Insider

After seeing Kauai’s breathtaking scenery in Hollywood classics like Lilo and Stitch, Catching Fire, or Jurassic Park it would be altogether natural to want to visit this beautiful Hawaiian island. Kauai is home to volcanoes, lush mountains, taro fields, and, of course, miles ... read more
of beautiful coastline. The Kauai weather is generally temperate, but generous amounts of rain keeps the landscape lush and verdant year round. Hotels in Kauai not only offer access to the beach, but also outdoor hiking adventures. Visitors usually stay along the coast of Kauai so they can enjoy the picturesque beaches. With over one million visitors annually and tourism supporting the majority of the economy, Kauai has many hotels ranging from the ultimate in luxurious accommodations to affordable beach getaways.

Luxury Hotels
Many of the luxurious resorts on the island are centered around Poipu Beach Park and Princeville. In Poipu Beach Park, some of the most beautiful options include the Grand Hyatt Kauai, the Sheraton Kauai, and the Marriott Kauai. These come standard with good service, comfy lounge chairs, luxurious spas, multiple swimming pools, delicious onsite restaurants, and of the course the ocean right in your backyard. They reside directly on the famous Poipu Beach, which is a great place to rent snorkels and surfboards. A popular thing to do in Kauai near these hotels includes visiting Hanapepe Road where tourists can find Kauai's art galleries, bookstores, and traditional Hawaiian barbeque.

In Princeville, luxurious resorts like the St. Regis Princeville and the Hanalei Bay Resort rest on Na Pali Beach. One of the best things to do in Kauai is right by these two hotels. The Queen's Bath is a unique tide pool surrounded by indigenous rock where you can swim and spot Hawaiian sea urchins. The Hanalei Bay Resort and the St. Regis Princeville are near the Na Pali Coast State Park. Known for beautiful waterfalls, and great hiking trails, the Na Pali Coast is perfect for those who like to spend time outdoors.

Affordable Hotels
But if you don’t have a big budget, you can still experience all Kauai has to offer without breaking the bank. The more affordable towns in Kauai, Kapaa and Lihue, are where visitors are sure to find great deals. The Plantation Hale Suites in Kapaa are both inexpensive and still offer a clean beachfront location. In Lihue, you'll find the Garden Island Inn and The Kauai Inn. With their closer proximity to the Kauai Airport, these hotels offer an extra convenience to their guests while still maintaining a secluded feel.

Kauai Attractions
No one will get bored exploring this beautiful Hawaiian Island. An abundance of activities and fun things to do are available in all locations. The Waimea Plantation Cottages is one of the best places to stay if you are interested in seeing the Waimea Canyon. The Waimea Canyon is a 3,600-foot deep canyon formed over centuries by extreme rainfall in the Waimea River. The Canyon is 10 miles long and has many hiking trails. The Hanalei Bay Resort and the St. Regis Princeville are great places to stay if you are interested in surfing lessons available for any skill level because companies offer inexpensive one hour lessons in the Hanalei Bay. They're also close to the companies that offer helicopter tours with views of peaks, waterfalls, and volcanoes from above.

I came here on my honeymoon when it was the Princeville Hotel in 2008. Keeping aside my honeymoon high bias and I can say, objectively, this was my best hotel experience ever! Lobby/Hotel The hotel is immaculate - from every obsessively clean piece of marble flooring, wall or shelf to every minimalist yet bold tropical plant/flower display. Sure it is ...

A very nice and spacious resort. If you ask people who know about this place or have been here, most will tell you about their pools. There are lots of pools! The views from the pools, terrace, restaurants and certain rooms are beautiful. Service is also very nice. Most people will greet you with a smile. They clean your room ...

In the heart of the popular Poipu area on the west side of Kauai is this Sheraton, right on the beach, perfect for spectacular views of sunsets on the waters. It is a low rise 4 story complex, with clusters of rooms offering different views and rate plans, i.e., the Garden, Sea, or Beach. I stayed in a beach unit ...

Koa Kea is one of my favorite places in Kauai but would not appeal to those who want pizzazz. Perhaps, that's why I like it so much. It is on the small side, as compared to the mega resorts that are nearby, rooms are spacious and we had a wonderful oceanfront view this stay. The negative is that balconies and ...

An ex-Hilton property not too far from Lihue airport, this mod resort property has panache. The beach it's on is rocky, so no good for swimming, but the pool complex is gorgeous and the atmosphere feels a lot more glam than you might expect from a budget-conscious boutique hotel run by the Aqua Hawaii chain.

This is a nice property, but it is in an odd location, if you ask me. It is in Lihue, which is town, but there isn't as much to do in town that is beach related. Personally, I would prefer to stay in one of Marriott's other properties on Poipu Beach. Lihue is fine if you have a car and ...

We stayed at the Westin in Princeville for a week. Everything was first class. The location is very close to Hanalei which is the town we fell in love with. Much local flavor. We visited in early Feb '11 and will be moving to Kaui in Feb '12 to either Princeville or Hanalei.

I liked the location. Not far from the airport. It's clean. The staff were very friendly and helpful. It's smaller than most of the Hotels we've stayed at but I liked it. The pool isn't heated which would be nice in the summer. We went in February so it was a little chilly, but the jacuzzi was hot. The only ...
