Nothing like Mt. Rushmore. It's breathtaking, it brings up so many questions... like HOW?!! Inside the gift store/museum they have information and also an area playing old film. See how Mt. Rushmore was created, the carving and work was extremely dangerous, but highly fascinating! The surrounding area is absolutely gorgeous and there is a national park not too far away. Make sure to have your camera out, you never know when you'll pass something amazing... like a buffalo right on the side of the road!

I wasn't expecting much but it was more striking and moving than I expected. The guided ranger tour was really interesting and informative. The Lincoln Borglum museum was well worth spending time. We missed the evening lighting ceremony but I think that would be fun. Only unexpected thing was you have to pay for parking even if you have the interagency parks pass.

Mount Rushmore is one of those iconic American places set in the middle of nowhere. We're good at that. The carvings are incredible, although maybe not as huge as expected. Mileage may vary. Definitely spend some time in the visitors center. So worth it!
