Driving towards the east side of the island past Kailua and Kaneohe, you'll see Mokolii or Chinamans Hat off the coast near Kualoa Ranch. will have to get a camp permit. Camping is allowed there, permits can be obtained 2 weeks in advance and it is free. There's a small strip of beach along the area. You can bbq in the park and play on the grass. During low tides you can kayaks and paddle out to the island and do a little short hike around (please wear reef shoes). The park is a nice area away from the busy Waikiki and Kailua beaches, not as far as North Shore or the West Side, and the scenery is beautiful with the Mokolii island in front of you.
